Grade 4 Teacher Email Phone: 920-984-3396 x129 About Mrs. Heiden
Hello! My name is Erin Heiden. As a child I grew up in the city of Seymour and attended the Seymour Community School district for my elementary, middle and high school education. I attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where I graduated in 2013 with my bachelor's degree in elementary education. In 2013 following graduation, I was fortunate to gain teaching experience with the Unified School District of De Pere where I taught for 7 years. In those years, I taught literacy support/instructional aide (1 year), Kindergarten (1 year), and Second Grade (5 years).
I have now taught at Black Creek Elementary Middle School since 2020, and every year look forward to gaining experience, building connections and developing as an educator and individual.
I am very fortunate to live where I teach and teach where I live. My family and I are nestled in the village of Black Creek where we live with our two cats (Dusty and Rex) and our Aussiedoodle (Max). We enjoy going for bike rides, running, playing board games, reading, drawing and painting, and going on family adventures around Wisconsin.
My Educational Philosophy
As an educator, I believe that each and every child is capable of learning when placed in an environment that supports various problem solving techniques, open and respectful discussion, mutual respect and a genuine sense of compassion for one another. Self regulation is a vital life skill so immersion in mindfulness practices that allow for self growth and awareness are present in my daily classroom routines. I believe students need to feel comfortable when learning so when possible flexible seating in an option.
Teaching and learning is a collaborative process. Learning opportunities in my classroom range from whole group, small group, partner, and independent learning experiences. Highly engaging daily learning includes inquiry, student led discussions along with the balance of teacher guided lessons. Empowering my learners to think freely and search for answers to help them grow in all academic, social and emotional areas is my goal as an educator and mentor for our youth.
No two children are alike therefore education and educators need to be flexible to figure out how to ensure every child has a fair opportunity to grow and develop into lifelong learners who are productive and activity community members. I am here to be that person for your child.
I look forward to working with you and our community to help our children grow, learn, and change our world.
